CALL FOR PAPERS
Zakat development in the Muslim world for the last decade has shown an
impressive growth. Its significance to the national and communal development is
irrefutable, as zakat contributes to social security and harmony by reducing the
gap between the have and the have not, and strengthens the economic
independence of the Muslim society. The zakat fund is also an important financial
source for the country in addition to tax fund. The distribution of zakat fund could
help generate and steer the Islamic country’s economic activities through the
increase in individual purchasing power.
The World Zakat Forum will be organizing an international conference of zakat as
a media to observe economic role of zakat in reducing poverty and income
inequality. This conference also aims at facilitating a platform for discussion
between policymakers, practitioners, academicians, researchers, graduate
students and other stakeholders to address various zakat problems and enhance
the role of zakat in the development of Islamic countries.
This international zakat conference is also co-hosted by the Department of
Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management of Bogor Agricultural
University, Centre for Islamic Development Studies of Bogor Agricultural
University, and Postgraduate Program of Ibn Khaldun University, Indonesia. The
conference will be held for three days during July 19-21, 2011 in Bogor, Indonesia.
